With what I’ve been through with my Mum situation I’ve learned a lot and will blog it here and hope that it will be of help to you if such situation comes across your path.
If a person has hit their head observed if:-
1) Unconscious – if the person black out it means that the brain had a very bad shaking.
2) Vomiting – this shows that our system is reacting to the shaking of our brain.
3) Numbness of legs or arms – this will usually be on one side. Not able to raise the hand or leg.
4) Slur of speech – if it had hit the bottom part of the head, it will cause some trauma to the speech part of the brain.
5) Bad headache – due to pressure of the bleeding to the brain.
6) Dizziness – that means something in the brain is imbalance already that’s why the dizziness comes.
If the person is experiencing anyone of these symptoms after the fall please please bring the person in for a scan to check if everything is okay or not. Think this symptom are also for a person who has a stroke. No harm to scan if there is nothing at least we know there is nothing. We can’t see from the outside, so the only way is thru a CT scan. So don’t take it lightly if the above symptoms persist!

PHEW!
Wow! It has been such a long time since I last blog! Sorry for the delay BUT a lot had happened since the last time that I blog. My Mum had been in and out of hospital and also underwent an operation to her head too! Shocking?!!! Hehe…
Okie… let me fill you in ya… My Mom had a fall and hit her head on the 27th December 2007. She was still ok after the fall but she started vomiting after about an hour and complains of bad headache. So I asked why she was vomiting? I didn’t know she had fallen. And she said maybe it was due to lunch… so I gave her some 100 Plus to drink and her vomiting stop! So I didn’t think of it much.
Then the next morning she was fine and started to do some house work. I got asked her if there is a need for her to see a doctor, she said “no need, it’s ok, will just take it easy”. So didn’t think much of it as after food poisoning sure tires one. The next day which was a Saturday we had a wedding to attend in the morning BUT she said she is not that well so we decided not to attend the wedding and I when for worship practice. After practice I got home and found Mom slur in her speech. Meaning she cannot pronounce a single word properly!
I got worried and called a Dr friend of mine and asked what should I do and her advise was to bring her in the Emergency at QE immediately. So I did just that, even tho’ Mum still insist she is “ok”. Beside the slur of speech everything else was perfectly fine! So the doctors did a scan and found that there was indeed some bleeding and it was quiet a massive one too! Gosh! That was a shocker BUT was happy that I brought her in. The doctors when thru her medication and found that she was on aspirin which was an agent to help dilute the blood, for this case it’s NOT good! The doctors stopped this medication immediately.
The next day morning Mom was able to speak word for word BUT still slow. By afternoon she was chit chatting with my aunties and uncles! J So she was discharge after that with an instruction from the doctor that if her condition deteriorates we must bring her back in immediately.
After 4 days at home, Mum condition become worst where she didn’t even have the strength to walk and had BAD stomach pain! No energy etc! So I called for an ambulance to bring Mum in (she was too heavy for us to move her hehe…). When admitted they did another scan and found that her brain has been pushed and pressed!
So they scheduled for an immediate operation to release the pressure so that it will not leave any permanent damaged to the brain. After the operation immediately Mum become alive and much herself tho’ weak! She was discharge a week after the operation. Mum is improving day by day BUT her speech is still slow.
I cannot say anything BUT Praise the Lord for His favor and mercy throughout! It was He who had caused the smooth operation and the quick respond of the doctors in the hospital. Beside that we had very good doctors (tho’ junior) that monitor every moment of Mum’s situation! It was indeed God who was there. Because after my Mum was discharge the very next day I heard of a close friend’s colleague who also had a fall and is not being treated and sent home! Gosh! What else can I say BUT all Glory to God!
God is the BEST! And ALL Glory to Him!
